Of course, I'm a bit biased, as I'm working on a hobby project in Unity, but I leveraged "real world experience" that both engines would give me (and the bit steep learning curve forUnreal) and ended up deciding for Unity. The best I've heard with this engine is either super amateur hobby projects (With the glorious exception of Locomalito's Hobby Awesome hobby projects), or people using it for quick prototipying (But I don't really see the need if you can do it with Unity.) Of course, this is a generalization, but I have yet to see any offer asking for experience with Game Maker. They usually want you to have Bjarne Stroustrup level of C++ knowledge. I actually don't like Gamemaker all that much personally so far because it can be a bit buggy. There's quite a few times I feel like tinkering with something gamedev related, and it's SO much easier sometimes to get myself to open up Gamemaker and do another of it's stupidly simple step by step built in tutorials and then add my own stuff to the tutorial game, etc, than it is to open up Unity or Unreal and wade into those great but massively complex tools. I'll probably even end up buying this one too for the extra modules. I wouldn't pay full price for it at all, but for the $10 or whatever I paid, it's nice to have.
